After a stressful week with a medical microbiology exam, I spent my Sunday in my favorite way; wearing my favorite pajamas and drinking cinnamon coffee (with cinnamon sprinkled on top!–it gives it the extra sweetness and flavor). Naturally, I was reading my newest book from the library. I’m reading The Heretic’s Daughter by Kathleen Kent. It’s about the Salem witch trials and written by someone who is descended from a woman who was convicted as a witch. I figured it was very fall and Halloween fitting. Plus I just finished an absolute tome of a book, Operation Paperclip by Annie Jacobsen, and I thought I could use something a little less information dense. Paperclip was an amazing non-fiction book about the U.S. program to bring Nazi scientist over to America to work. The extent that members of the U.S. government went to to bring war criminals (some of whom were tried at the Nuremberg trials) was nothing short of shocking. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in World War II.
I spent the rest of the day doing crafts with a girlfriend of mine and starting to decorate the rest of my apartment for fall. I made a wreath for our door based on a picture I saw on pinterest. I also made a delicious blueberry coffee cake and pumpkin spice coffee to go with our crafting.
Not bad for my first try huh? I think I did a pretty good job. The coffee cake is something my mom came up with. It’s taken from one of our favorite cooking websites, simply scratch. http://www.simplyscratch.com/2013/07/homemade-blueberry-muffins.html It’s a blueberry muffin recipe that we bake as a coffee cake and add an oatmeal crust to. (1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 oatmeal, and 2 tablespoons of softened butter mix and spread across cake) We then cook it at 375 for 40 minutes or so. It is by far the yummiest blueberry coffee cake I have ever had.
It was a pretty relaxing day. Now I’m back to school work, which means physics, physics, physics. Hopefully I can squeeze in some reading time on the side.
